If you need work done on your vehicle, it is always a good idea to go to the dealer to have that work done. While you are allowed to go anywhere you feel comfortable having your car looked at, the personnel at a different shop may not be familiar with your make and model of vehicle. Furthermore, they may not have the parts necessary to make the best repair.
When you go to the dealer’s service shop, you know that they have a record of all prior work done to your car. They also know if it needs an oil change, tire rotation or fluid flush due to be performed soon. If there is a recall, the matter can be addressed at the same time as other work is being performed on your vehicle. This saves you the time and hassle of having to make multiple trips for related jobs that may only add a few minutes to the initial appointment.
If you have a warranty on your vehicle, you should always take it to a dealer for repairs or any other work that it has done. This is because a bad oil change or the use of the wrong part could lead to damage that is no longer covered by the terms of that warranty. In most cases, if the dealer makes a mistake that leads to additional damage, the fix will still be covered by the warranty and you will pay nothing out of your own pocket.
